Start with an online page

An online fundraising page reaches supporters across the Wellington region and beyond without needing a venue or permit. It gives local events and posters somewhere to point people, and keeps a clear public record of what has been raised.

Share the page in suburb Facebook groups, school and sports club newsletters, and workplace channels. Wellington has many government and corporate workplaces where colleagues are often glad to help.

Street appeals and collections in Wellington

Wellington City Council issues a temporary licence for organisations that want to collect money on the street for a charity. Collecting is allowed only on the approved day, between 7am and 6pm, with no more than three collectors at each collection point, and an organisation cannot collect on another day in the same calendar year. Popular dates fill up, so apply well in advance.

Private venues such as supermarkets, malls and markets need permission from the owner or manager, not the council.

Events and raffles

Quiz nights, sausage sizzles, fun runs and club days work well. Put a QR code linking to your online page on posters and tables so people without cash can give.
